Are you someone who feels deeply, notices subtle details, and often needs time to recharge after social interactions? You may be a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). Highly sensitive individuals process the world more intensely, experiencing emotions, environments, and interactions on a deeper level than those around them.
Being an HSP can feel like a weakness - you may have been told you’re “too sensitive” or “too emotional”; however, 15-20% of people are considered highly-sensitive.
How do I know if I’m an HSP? Basically, as an HSP, your nervous system is, well, more sensitive to the world around you, which can feel like a weakness, when in reality it can lead to heightened awareness, creativity, empathy, and intuition.
While this sensitivity can be a beautiful quality, it can also feel overwhelming and negatively impactful in a variety of ways:
Your sensitivity to the emotions of others can lead to heightened anxiety and nervousness
You may need more time to recharge after social interactions
You can become overwhelmed and/or overstimulated in social situations, causing you to isolate or shut down
You can be hyper-vigilant to your surroundings, leading you to feel nervous, anxious, or even fearful
or you experience emotions very deeply, which is often misunderstood and may impact relationships, to name a few
If you believe you may be an HSP or are finding yourself struggling with your emotions or heightened sensitivity, I’d be honored to work with you to help you feel more in-tune with yourself and find ways to work with your sensitivity!
